Charlotte: Charlotte Region Monthly Meeting with Guest Speaker Bob Hills (April 14, 2026)

We are pleased to have as our guest speaker photographer Bob Hills who is currently a resident way out in Arizona. Bob has a pretty unique style and different take on the art and he will be sharing his images and offering guidance on techniques, lighting, and creative experimentation during this presentation.

We will be using Bob's Zoom presentation as an opportunity to gather together and watch in person with our friends at the The Photo Outfitters at 4732 Monroe Road, Suite 130, Charlotte N.C. 28205. So come join us there for a little socializing in the real world.

HC: Blue Ridge Conservancy Meet Up (April 16, 2026)

The Blue Ridge Conservancy will be hosting the High Country Region's April meeting at their Blowing Rock campus. We'll hear from Leila Jackson, BRC's director of communications, about the organization's many conservation initiatives aimed at expanding public access to lands across western North Carolina and to preserve their recreational , cultural and ecological benefits.

We'll meet at BRC's Deborah I. Swartzel Education Center at 416 Aho Road (east of 321 between Blowing Rock and Boone). The meeting will start at 5pm. Please RSVP here so that we can provide the Conservancy with an accurate head count.

Triangle: Jordan Lake boat tour (April 17, 2026)

This is the event rescheduled from March 20th (hopefully it will be a lot warmer). Capt. Dave will take us on a birding tour of Jordan Lake. We should see lots of birds including herons, osprey, and eagles. Maybe we'll spot some hummingbirds as well. Cost is $40 per person, payable at the beginning of the tour. Please arrive by 7:40 am at Poe Boat Ramp. Parking is $7 per space (free if you have a National Parks pass). Two cars per space.

In bird photography, it is common to try to fill the frame to give viewers an up-close look at our unique feathered friends. But there's another approach that can also be incredibly powerful.

Join the High Country Region as we welcome Ray Hennessy, who will share his concepts and techniques for: Photographing Birds Small in the Frame.

Ray has mastered this style of environmental bird photography in which the subject often occupies less than 5% of the frame. The results are dramatic and compelling. You won't want to miss his talk!
